Greece wins... football loses

Greece today has become in the words of my good friend Lawrence the 'super underdog'. Think mighty mouse with droopy ears, wagging tail and wet tongue. Seriously, Greece has defied all odds to emerge as champions in the world of football (soccer to those in America). And I am depressed. Well, that's not quite right. I'm disappointed. I feel betrayed by the beautiful game. It cannot be beautiful if defense rules and not offense. I dislike watching games where the defense so stifles their opponents that no goals are scored. For sure a clean sheet is much lauded but come on... when you score more with your head than your feet I think something is very wrong. Maybe the current national coaches have been unable to find an answer for the Greek 'Phalanx' but I sure hope they find an answer soon.
I hate to think that in the next year, we will see an increase in defensive minded coaches/teams. That would kill the game. No one and I mean no one wants to watch a football game where the balls are all stopped somewhere in mid-field, or a game where the scoreline is very predictable - 1 - 0 or 0 - 0.
No one

May the goals continue to flow.

I am awaiting for the invention of the machine-gun
