On idealism and expectations

Today's blog is going to be rather philosophical. Take that as a general warning and proceed at ur own risk! To those who are actually in the arena of philosophy, this probably won't be up to snuff but I'm not a licensed philosopher so there!

Anyways, I often wonder how much our expectation (and more often our idealism) really does affect the way we work and proceed through the daily grind. Take for example the expectations we place on ourselves during our working hours. I know more people who take their jobs very seriously than those who are there shuffling paper to fill time and receive a paycheck. A lot of the people I know are rather dedicated and surprisingly hard-working! (well surprising to me probably because if I were given half the chance I'd rather be at home cooking, writing and playing guitar!) When they don't seem to live up to their own expectations, they get depressed. Or worse, they get angry!

Truth be told, I've encountered that as well - especially when it comes to my writing. I guess in that sense, blogs give me an avenue of expression that's rather pressure-free. I don't really care if it's good because (1) not many people read it and (2) it just seems to have this rather non-chalant, I can make mistakes and I join 50 - 70% of the community; but I digress.

Arrggghhh too many distractions and I've lost my original train of thoughts.

In short - too much expectation is no good - esp. the side effects when they don't materialise. No expectation is the root of all mediocrity I believe. So where do we go.

To the moon I say! To the cold, disheartening, yet so spectacular moon.
